I’m Arden Rembert Brink and welcome to my blog. I’m a little late coming to this “blog world” but I’m not new to writing, communicating, and connecting with readers. I’ve “written” virtually my whole life, mostly for business during my various careers over the past 30+ years in advertising, marketing, sail training, non-profit management, and consulting.
(In fact, my first book Unraveling the Mysteries of Moving to Costa Rica was published this past year and has seen good sales and positive reviews from readers. It’s somewhat for them that I’m writing this blog!)
In the fall of 2005 I had the crazy idea that we should move from Maine to Costa Rica. “We” in this case was me, my husband David, my parents (both in their 80s), and our 2 dogs and 2 cats. Less than a year later, in the early fall of 2006, we had arrived in Costa Rica to start what we saw as a new life. There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with the old life, but we were ready for the challenges that setting up life in a new country would offer.
We’ve loved it here. It is definitely not without adventures, frustrations, and hassles, but overall we’ve found that those simply didn’t bother us that much. We’d really never even thought about going back until a change in our family — with the arrival of our first grandchild — simply changed how we felt about things. (More on that in future blog posts!)
David and I have spent weeks (if not months) at a time in our former lifetimes at sea aboard traditional sailing ships. It prepared us in ways we’d never imagined for living in a foreign country. (And more on that in future posts, too.)
I hope you’ll join us on this next phase of the journey, and I hope that our experiences might prove useful to you!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
